Karsten Donnay is Assistant Professor of Political Behavior and Digital Media in the Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich, a member of the Digital Democracy Lab and a DSI Professor. In his work, he uses large-scale surveys and survey experiments paired with observational data from digital media platforms to shed light on the exact mechanisms by which individuals interact, obtain information, are influenced by or influence others online.

Milo Puhan is Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. He leads population-based studies such as the Corona Immunitas Initiative or the Swiss MS Registry, and has a special interest in modeling benefits and side effects of preventive measures, screening and therapies of chronic diseases. He is President of the Swiss School of Public Health and leads the PhD program in Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the Life Science Zurich Graduate School.

Seraina Rüegger is the Scientific Director of the Population Research Center at the University of Zurich. She received her PhD from ETH Zurich in 2013 and holds a Master in Political Science from the University of Zurich. Before coming to UZH, Seraina worked at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) as an expert on Ukraine. Prior to that, she was a Senior Researcher in the International Conflict Research Group at ETH Zurich. As a lecturer, she taught courses on conflict research and forced migration at ETH Zurich and at the Universities of Basel, Lucerne and Zurich.

Lilly Shanahan

Prof. Lilly Shanahan leads the research focus "Risk and Resilience" at the UZH Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development and is a professor at the UZH Department of Psychology.  Previously, she was a professor at several US universities (e.g., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill).  

The goal of Prof. Shanahan's research is to understand risk and protective factors for the development of psychopathology (e.g., depression, anxiety, substance use) in the first decades of life. In whom, when, and how does psychopathology (or its precursors) develop? And who is protected from it, in what ways, despite significant risks?  

Prof. Shanahan is co-director of the population-based, longitudinal "Zurich Project on Social Development from Childhood into Adulthood (z-proso)" and also works with other population-based longitudinal studies, such as the "Great Smoky Mountains Study (GSMS)" and "The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health)."

Andrea Farnham is a senior researcher at the EBPI, and supports the development of scientific content and interdisciplinary research events at the PRC. She is an epidemiologist specializing in using digital data to track population movement and health, and provides methodological support to population based research studies. The largest of these is the SwissPrEPared study, a longitudinal program and cohort study on people taking HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) across Switzerland.

Jan Fehr

Jan Fehr, MD, Prof, heads the Department of Public & Global Health and Travel Medicine Clinic at the University of Zurich. He leads the Pandemic Reference Vaccination Center of the Canton of Zurich and the Travel Clinic, which is the only WHO Collaborating Centre for Traveler’s Health worldwide. His research focuses on HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, mobility medicine, and emerging infectious diseases, including Covid-19 and vaccines. He is responsible for the SwissPrEPared platform and co-leads the academic partnership between the UZH and Makerere University of Kampala, Uganda. He is a member of various expert opinion groups and commissions, including the Swiss Federal Commission for Issues relating to Sexually Transmitted Infections. He is also the UZH One Health representative in the Una Europa University Alliance.

Thomas N. Friemel leads the division on Media Use & Effects at the Department of Communication and Media Research. He is the president of the national research program “Covid-19 in Society” of the Swiss National Science Foundation (NRP80), editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Health Communication (EJHC), vice-chair of the health communication section of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), co-director of the Digital Society Initiative of the University of Zurich (DSI), and founder of the Data Donation Lab. His work focuses on media use & effects, health communication, and methodological innovation.

Oskar Jenni

Oskar Jenni co-directs the Child Development Center at the University Children's Hospital Zurich since 2005; he is Associate Professor for Developmental Paediatrics at the University of Zurich. His research interests include children’s sleep behavior and the motor, cognitive and social development of healthy and sick children. He is Principal Investigator of the Zurich Longitudinal Studies, some of the largest long-term studies on the development of children from birth to adulthood. In 2021 his book «Die kindliche Entwicklung verstehen» was published by the Springer Verlag.

Bea Latal

Dr. Bea Latal is a developmental pediatrician and the Co-Director of the Child Development Center at the Kinderspital Zürich. Her work focusses on newborns and children at risk for neurodevelopmental disorders. The results of her clinical studies will lead to interventions aiming at improving the neurodevelopmental outcome of these children and the quality of life of their parents.

Viktor von Wyl leads the Digital and Mobile Health Group at the Institute for Implementation Science in Healthcare (www.ifis.uzh.ch). He is also the Scientific Director of the Swiss Multiple Sclerosis Registry at the Epidemiology, Biostatistics & Prevention Institute (www.ms-register.ch). Trained as in Epidemiology and Health Services Research, he has helped to establish and analyze large-scale observational health studies involving the general population (Corona Immunitas) or persons living with Multiple Sclerosis (Swiss MS Registry). Building on those experiences, his team aims to develop next-generation observational health studies by leveraging wearable sensors (e.g. activity trackers), data collection by speech-to-text, and methods of natural language processing.

Markus Wolf

Markus Wolf is a Senior Researcher at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Research at the Psychological Institute of the University of Zurich. He has gained his PhD at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in the field of digital mental health. He has a specific interest in clinical trial methods and longitudinal psychopathology assessment and leads interdisciplinary projects at the intersection between mental health services research as well as psychotherapy process and outcome research, where he develops blended digital and low-threshold psychological interventions to improve pathways of care and to support psychotherapy processes.
